Question: I have a GE LOGIQ 5 that when I turn on Pulsed Wave (PW) Doppler with a 10L, there is a great deal of noise - The term I would use is that is sounds like a motor boat sound. Where should I start looking to isolate the problem?

Answer: Here is how I would attack the problem to try to isolate it:

- Try a different probe of the same model number.

- Try a different probe port.
- Try a different probe model number.

- If CW is an available option see if the problem is present in that mode on imaging probes also.

- If the CWD (Pencil) probe port is installed, see if the problem occurs with a pencil probe also.

- Try turning gain all the way down in PW/CW mode to see if the problem is affected.

- Try turning transmit power all the way down in PW/CW mode to see if the problem is affected.

- Ensure the probe is being used at application defaults – no user presets being applied. I have seen a low wall filter (in combination with custom PRF and other settings cause a motor boat artifact).

- Reload both the base and application software.

- Verify the power coming from the wall is within OEM tolerances.

- Verify the power coming from the wall has a good ground and that there is less than 1vpp between ground and neutral.

- Move the machine to a different power source/room that is not on the same circuit.

- Verify all DC (LV & HV) power supplies are within OEM tolerances with less than 1vpp AC ripple.

- Reseat the RLY/LMT/PMT/ATD/CWDOP/RDS/FEC Boards one at a time to see if there is any affect.

- Remove LMT/PMT/ATD/CWDOP/RDS Boards one at a time and power up the unit to see if the problem is affected.

- Remove the HV Board and power up the unit to see if the problem is affected.

Hope that helps!
